What is your name?

panamaniac

Please enter the name of your Blog

Bala Beach Exchange

What is your current age or age range?

50-60

What area of Panama Expat and Travel do you current live (Providence, City, general area etc.)

Bella Vista, Panama City, Panama.

How long have you lived in Panama Expat and Travel?

12 Months

When you moved to Panama Expat and Travel, did you bring your family? What do they think?

No, family still working.

Did you leave your family behind? How do you handle the separation?

Frequent travel.

What made you decide to relocate to a different country?

US Politics, US economy, Panama climate, friendly and interesting cultures in Panama and most of all, a good amount of unspoiled environment.

What other countries did you consider? Why didn't you choose those?

Tasmania, Australia, Dominican Republic. One was too distant from my US family members and the other is still a bit too corrupt and suffers hurricanes.

Was it difficult to get the documents you needed to live and/or work there? (residency and/or working permit)

After reading about the process, and since I travel frequently, I decided to just keep my tourist visas and renew as needed.

What was the most difficult part of the transition?

None, as I already spoke fairly fluent spanish and love the country.

What was the biggest mistake you made in the transition to living in Panama?

Not allowing the correct amount of time for something to happen; sometimes it takes longer (buying a pre-construction home) and sometimes it is like the drive thru at McDonalds.

What was the easiest part of making the transition?

Meeting people, shopping, transportation and finding a source for healthcare.

Do you plan on returning to your home country? Why or why not?

I go back for visits. It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there!

Do you miss your family, friends or old home and habits?

Family and friends, yes, but now they have a place to visit.

What do you miss the most about your home country?

Sorry, I have sitting here thinking for FIVE minutes, and my mind is a blank. At first I thought "mega super store shopping", but I don't miss that. Then I thought, "people speaking my own language", but then I thought about the things they were saying...

So I guess there is nothing that I miss.

Are there the same recreational activities in Panama
