How long have you lived in Queensland?

1 year

When you moved to Queensland, did you bring your family? What do they think?

did not bring family

Did you leave your family behind? How do you handle the separation?

use skype a lot!

What made you decide to relocate to a different country?

change in lifestyle, career and relationship

Why did you choose Queensland, or what factors helped you to decide to choose Queensland?

been there on holiday, partner already living there

What other countries did you consider? Why didn't you choose those?

no others considered

Was it difficult to get the documents you needed to live and/or work there? (residency and/or working permit)

no - on a student visa - very easy

What was the most difficult part of the transition?

now - initial euphoria has worn off!

What was the biggest mistake you made in the transition to living in Queensland?

not tidying up loose ends properly in UK before leaving; booking plane ticket before contract on house sale was signed!

What was the easiest part of making the transition?

finding somewhere to live

Do you plan on returning to your home country? Why or why not?

not sure -definitely for holidays

Do you miss your family, friends or old home and habits?

yes, plus hot weather is sometimes difficult to get used to, along with enormous creepy crawlies.

What do you miss the most about your home country?

surprisingly, the weather! plus friends and family, my nice car, favourite shops and certain brands of food!

Are there the same recreational activities in Queensland?

more outdoors activities

How easy has it been to make new friends in Queensland?

not very

Do you have many friends from your home country in Queensland?

no

What are your favorite activities that are available?

snorkelling

What are the top ten things you DON'T miss about the place you left behind?

social climate in towns and cities

Do you speak the language of Queensland?

yes!

Do you think it is crucial to know the language in Queensland, or can you get by with a handheld translation dictionary for a while?

you have to pass an english test to be able to get your visa

Was medical insurance difficult to get before you went or after you first arrived?

no

Did you move to your new location after retirement, or are you currently working or looking for work?

currently on a student visa with 20 hours of work per week permitted during term time

What are the top ten things you like about Queensland?

cheaper property (than the UK), open space

What are the top ten things you DON'T like or find strange about Queensland?

insects!

Do you have plans to move again or travel in the future or what are your future business plans?

no

bought new house

Was it difficult to find housing in your new country?
