Indian

What area of Oman do you current live (Providence, City, general area etc.)

Al ghubra - Muscat

How long have you lived in Oman?

about 11 years..

When you moved to Oman, did you bring your family? What do they think?

I moved in a bachelor and now I am married with two daughters..

Did you leave your family behind? How do you handle the separation?

My family was always with me...

What made you decide to relocate to a different country?

Job, and also wanted to experience new cultures....

Why did you choose Oman, or what factors helped you to decide to choose Oman?

heard that is a nice place to live in with the family, and i am sure it is not wrong... this is a beutiful country..

What other countries did you consider? Why didn't you choose those?

Nothing else.. oman is fine.. if not back to my Home country.

Was it difficult to get the documents you needed to live and/or work there? (residency and/or working permit)

No at all.. it is a smooth sail until now.

What was the most difficult part of the transition?

Leaving my parents and friends behind..

What was the biggest mistake you made in the transition to living in Oman?

reducing the level of contacts with friends back home.

What was the easiest part of making the transition?

People here are quite friendly and understanding. Was blessed with good people in the work and sorroundings

Do you plan on returning to your home country? Why or why not?

May be, couple of years later.

Do you miss your family, friends or old home and habits?

I miss my old home and friends.. Oman is quite an open place, you do not have to change your habits etc.. it is quite free..

What do you miss the most about your home country?

food...

Are there the same recreational activities in Oman?

Yes, there are.

How easy has it been to make new friends in Oman?

quite easy.. as most of the other exapts living here have gone thru the same phase, they are quite accomodative, and needless to say the locals are quite pleasent nature. Most of them.

Do you have many friends from your home country in Oman?

yes...

What are your favorite activities that are available?

meeting up with friends / going on for long walk in the PDO heights...

What are the top ten things you miss about the place you left behind?

Parents, food, friends, Liberty to have any pet you want.. nothing much..

What are the top ten things you DON'T miss about the place you left behind?

dust Pollution crowd....

Do you speak the language of Oman?

No...

Do you think it is crucial to know the language in Oman, or can you get by with a handheld translation dictionary for a while?

No really, as most of them speak english..

Was medical insurance difficult to get before you went or after you first arrived?

was not required...

Did you move to your new location after retirement, or are you currently working or looking for work?

currently working..

How do you earn your living in Oman?

working as a general manager in one of the leading Trading companies..

Do you generally earn your income the same way, or in the same profession, as in your home country?

No, it us higher than before.. but the bridge is becoming small... fast..

How did you go about finding a job in Oman? Was it easy or hard to locate work and get a job?

Not hard, got called in for an interview thru one of my friends, and was Hooked...

What types of sources did you use to find a job there? (agency, newspaper, website?)

Just friends..

If you are telecommuting, what obstacles, if any, did you face in setting up your communication methods?

No, probs , as of now..

Are there local customs that would make it difficult for foreigners to fit in?

No.... al most all the time. sometims make it difficult, where there are local women involved.

What are the top ten things you like about Oman?

quite, Peacefull Hospitality clean everything...

What are the top ten things you DON'T like or find strange about Oman?

Nothing to say..... Every thing has positive and negatives sides... this is the country that I have lived in for 11 years, and had not faced any probs os of now... inshallah..

Do you have plans to move again or travel in the future or what are your future business plans?

No. But in future, I wish to have branches of my compnay in other parts of gulf , and also in india. I am sure I will acheive this shortly.

Did you buy a new home or did you decide to rent?

Rent..

What is the average cost for housing in your area?

r.o 250/= for a double room flat..

Was it difficult to find housing in your new country?

yes, recently...

Is the cost of living comparable to what you experienced before? Explain the difference.

It is becoming costly.

List some things that are more expensive in Oman

House Rent... all other things... as in every other part of the world...

List some things that are less expensive in Oman

fishes ???? Not sure..

How do you feel about the local people? Are they friendly?

they are definetly friendly compared to other gcc nationals...

What is the best thing about people in Oman?

Freindly......

Do you have any suggestions for people who are thinking about moving to Oman?

Pls come.it is definetly a good place.. Call me if you need any assistance.

What are the good or bad things about living in Oman?

Eveny country have good and bad things... But Oman, has more percentage of good things... it is a good place.

Do you think you will stay in Oman, or it is not suitable for the long run?

yes it is.....

If you are living there for the short term, what other countries are you considering?

dubai ...... dont tell, that you have not been warned about the traffic....

Do you have any blogs or websites that you find enjoyable about Oman for people living there?

I dont know....

What else would you like to say?

It is quite a big interview... am i going to get the award to reply to this long inteview.. ??
